Open Educational Resources

The Educational resources I found were very helpful and gave me lots of insight on how students will be able to save money in the future.

Here is a great definition of Oer and gives great examples to help you the reader understand it better and hopefully give you more insight to the idea like it did for me
OER DEFINITION
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that are freely available online for everyone to use, whether you are an instructor, student or self-learner. Examples of OER include: full courses, course modules, syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, quizzes, lab and classroom activities, pedagogical materials, games, simulations, and many more resources contained in digital media collections from around the world.

Open source (relating to business and technology)
Open source software
Open source hardware
Open standards
Open access (research)
Open design
Open knowledge
Open data
Open content
Open courseware
Open educational resources
Open educational practice

They give many ideas on how OER can help students.  They talk about potentially being able to receive all your materials online for free and saving students lots and lots of money.  They are trying to pair up with publishers to help cut students a deal and help to improve the conditions of the books they are using.

I believe that the idea of OER is a great idea but there are still a lot of kinks to work out like why would the publisher want to donate and lose a lot of money.  However, I think if we continue to build the partnership and work on advancing the idea some day we will be able to save students lots and lots of money.
