This is believe....

By doing this project I was able to find out just how many negative aspects there are to teaching and how hard it is going to be to be a teacher.  I hope that I will be able to show other people just how tough it is going to be and hopefully be able to overcome these things and become the best teacher that i can be

Open Educational Resources

The Educational resources I found were very helpful and gave me lots of insight on how students will be able to save money in the future.

Here is a great definition of Oer and gives great examples to help you the reader understand it better and hopefully give you more insight to the idea like it did for me
OER DEFINITION
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that are freely available online for everyone to use, whether you are an instructor, student or self-learner. Examples of OER include: full courses, course modules, syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, quizzes, lab and classroom activities, pedagogical materials, games, simulations, and many more resources contained in digital media collections from around the world.

Open source (relating to business and technology)
Open source software
Open source hardware
Open standards
Open access (research)
Open design
Open knowledge
Open data
Open content
Open courseware
Open educational resources
Open educational practice

They give many ideas on how OER can help students.  They talk about potentially being able to receive all your materials online for free and saving students lots and lots of money.  They are trying to pair up with publishers to help cut students a deal and help to improve the conditions of the books they are using.

I believe that the idea of OER is a great idea but there are still a lot of kinks to work out like why would the publisher want to donate and lose a lot of money.  However, I think if we continue to build the partnership and work on advancing the idea some day we will be able to save students lots and lots of money.

What I believe

I don't want to be a teacher.....

You will never believe what happened today.  I got to sleep in today until 6:00.  I usually wake up around five but today i spoiled myself.  I never thought i would be waking up at the time i used to be going to bed.  I used to be a bartender and got to do whatever I wanted and sleep in as long as I wanted.  Now I'm up before the crows.  After I put on my uncomfortable dress clothes I go on my drive in the pitch black to my cold school.

When i get to school I hae to clean and set up my room because the janitors half-ass their job.  An hour later the kids start showing up for first period.  I teach fifth grade word problems to start of my day.  Not exactly something to change my negative attitude.  Kids are always tired in first period so teaching them anything is a challenge.  A young boy named Matthew never stays awake.  He doesn't come from a very well off family so he doesn't sleep well.  What am I supposed to do?  Waking him up does nothing and its not his fault he is always tired.  Its a lose-lose situation for me.

In second period I teach accelerated math to 7th graders.  They are for the most part a good class but you always get those little pricks in your class that think they know it all.  Mine is Joseph.  He always has an argument and thinks he is smarter than me.  It is very annoying and I think it's because he reminds me of myself when I was his age.  I always knew karma was real.  I guess I finally get what i deserve, a little version of myself.

My third period is pre-algebra to 6th graders.  The class rarely pays attention to me.  Everyone is thinking about lunch and recess and being able to see there other brat-like friends.  I once tried to teach them a lesson by giving them a pop quiz.  Half the class failed that quiz. Of course, when i handed them back half the kids started crying and what seemed like the other half all had their parents calling me that night complaining.  Don't need drama when all I do is deal with it so can't do that again.

My final class is 8th grade geometry.  It is my least favorite class to teach.  The kids all return from recess and all smell terrible.  They all fart and burp like crazy from the food they just ate as well, making my room smell like a shithole.  They all also have ants in their pants because they are all so excited to go home.  To make matters worse, if possible, is 8th graders hormones are going crazy.  I have a couple in the back of the room that hold hands and grope each other the whole time.  You shouldnt' do that but what am I supposed to do.  Can't get them in trouble with their parents, just make them want to do it even more.  I can never win.

Teaching middle education is a terrible experience.  My paycheck sucks and I deal with little monsters all day long.  They all complain and smell bad and act like they grew up in a barn.  I made the biggest mistake of my life deciding to be a teacher.  DO NOT BECOME A TEACHER.

Bullying

I am writing on an occuring problem in school, bullying.  Bullying has been an issue in schools for as long as schools have been around and there is never a real solution.  Teachers have come up with many reasons for bullying, the biggest one is envy. Most people even at youth treat other people badly when they are envious of them.  The problem is most bullying happens when teachers aren't around and kids are too afraid to tell the teachers because the bullies threaten them if they do something worse will happen so its just an oncurring situation.  Teachers and staff will continue to work hard and hopefully come up with a solution to this drastic problem.

Naughty Nine
The story posted here talks about how a popular group of girls are targeting her friends and constantly picking on them. The girl states how her friends were able to cope with it but not her. She ended up having to drop out of school and started homeschool. She even had to get on medicine for her anxieties and stress. She cant have cope with having friends so she buys more and more animals as a replacement for them but its obvioulsy not the same. No one is willing to help her including the cops, friends or parents because again tthey only care about themselves.  Hopefully with the help of other students having this problem and people being able to help her we can fix her problem and move on fixing another problem.

twitter talk

Today we are once again talking about twitter and what people think about it. IT is a good way for people to post their feelings at teh moment but for the most part people use it to share information that most people dont' want to hear about and most people use it for when they are bored. Its just another way to communicate by texting when people could just talk in person

review of peers blogs

The presentations went well. Mike incorporated a smart board in his presentation.  Brittany used a song with the quadratic formula to help remember the formula that she actually used when she was learning about it. I really liked the ideas they showed me and i thought it was very productive. I wasn't very good with powerpoint but after this project i learned how to rename and use a hyperlink. I thought this project was very good in helping me teach better in the future.

presentation day

Today we will be presenting our power point to our classmates. excited to learn more ideas about teaching

Ulcerative colitis blog review

The blog that I chose is on Ulcerative Colitis. The reason I chose this is because I

have this disease and always enjoy learning more. It is not a well known disease and most

people I talk to about it have no idea what it is. Also, I love hearing other people’s

experiences on it.  The disease is basically described as such. Your colon has ulcers all

through it and is inflamed at all times.  There is no real cure for the disease.

The article I chose is called, “Seeking Hope From a Support Group.”  The theme

of the blog is a women who was recently diagnosed with the disease is trying to find hope

from other people with the same disease.  The word that is used most in the text would be

experience.  Everyone in the group talks about their experiences with the disease and

ideas that they have to make it a little better. Another way she uses the word is to describe

how people who don’t have the disease can’t really help because they haven’t

experienced the same things she has and doesn’t know how to help.  I think that there are

a lot of situations in life where it is hard for people to understand situations because they

have never experienced it. For example, the pain in child birth for men.  The author of

this article is saying that she is not expecting people to understand her condition but yet

search for hope from other people and have people be there for her in her hard times.

In my own experience I feel like I experienced a lot of the same feelings she did.

It’s hard to remember that other people have experienced the same things that I did.  I

ended up losing twenty seven pounds in two weeks and ended up in the hospital for a

week.  All I wanted was to have people who knew what I was going through.  The disease

has totally flipped my life around but knowing that other people have experienced it as

well gave me some hope, just like the writer of the article.  From experiencing this and

reading the blog, it gives me the hope to get through it just like the author wants as well.
